Cleanliness is key to a positive experience, from the moment a customer steps foot in a grocery store to the second they return their cart.

Refrigeration and moisture can cause mold outbreaks; odors can create an unpleasant environment; insects can creep where they don’t belong, and high-touchpoint areas like check stands and service counters can raise sanitization concerns. The grocery business has natural challenges that most grocers face.

AWG has developed a partnership with Synexis, a pioneer in microbial reduction. They have developed Dry Hydrogen Peroxide (DHP), a process by which naturally occurring oxygen and humidity are converted to create hydrogen peroxide gas (H2O2). Wherever air goes in an indoor facility, DHP goes to continuously reduce viruses, bacteria, mold, odors and insects in the air, on surfaces, and hard-to-reach places not typically addressed in intermittent cleaning.

Several AWG grocers have partnered with Synexis to install its biodefense technology. Barry Queen, co-owner of Price Chopper collaborated with Synexis.

“I believe it refreshes our stores and makes our space feel cleaner,” Queen said. “People who are in our stores say they can tell a difference. Any grocery store or restaurant in the future, in my opinion, who doesn’t have Synexis or a system like this will not survive.”
